The new app based on “David Bowie Is,” an exhibit based on David Bowie’s life and career and it will be narrated by actor Gary Oldman. “This brings the amazing ‘David Bowie Is’ exhibition to a wider audience,” Oldman said in a press release. “It’s great that his fans get to experience it. It was a privilege to be involved.” The app will guide the users through “the show’s hundreds of costumes, videos, handwritten lyrics, original works of art, and more.” It is set to launch on January 8th, on what would be Bowie’s 72nd birthday.
Webster Hall to reopen this year
The historic Webster Hall in New York closed its doors in August 2017 after a sale to AEG Presents and Brooklyn Sports and Entertainment. Gerard McNamee, the director of operations, wrote in a statement, “[Webster Hall] will be closed for an undisclosed period of time for demo, reno, and transition to corporate ownership under Barclays/AEG/Bowery Presents.”
Webster Hall’s social media accounts shared a video captioned, “See ya in 2019!” on New Years Eve. See the tweet below.
The last concert at Webster Hall before it closed was Action Bronson on August 10, 2017.

M.I.A.’s documentary released on demand
M.I.A.’s documentary MATANGI / MAYA / M.I.A.was released in September to theaters. The film is now available to purchase online via iTunes and other digital retailers as of Today. The documentary is directed by Stephen Loveridge and was scored by Paul Hicks and Dhani Harrison. It shows a look into M.I.A.’s life as an artist with personal footage spanning over the course of her childhood to present day. The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival this year where it was the winner of the World Cinema Documentary Special Jury Award.

New Kamasi Washington short film to Debut at Sundance 2019
Kamasi Washington is set to debut a new short film at Sundance 2019.The short, titled, As Told To G/D Thyself, is directed by a collective called the Ummah Chroma, which features Washington, Bradford Young, Terence Nance,, Jenn Nkiru, and Marc Thomas. It’s inspired by the music of Washington’s latest album, Heaven and Earth. Check out the film poster below.
