The Wu-Tang Clan performed on last night’s episode of “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.” The Roots were the backing band for RZA, Ghostface Killah, Cappadonna, and Steven Latorre. They played “My Only One” from the new album Wu-Tang: The Saga Continues. Watch video of their performance here. Listen to the Roots’ “Schoolhouse Rock”-style song about slavery
During the season premiere of “Black-ish” on ABC last night m, an illustrated version of the Roots sang a “Schoolhouse Rock”-esque educational song about slavery. It opens with Black Thought singing, “I am a slave/Yes, I’m only a slave/They’ll place my body in an unmarked grave.” Watch the animated video here. The Roots also released the song “It Ain’t Fair,” in July, from the soundtrack to Detroit, Kathryn Bigelow’s film about the 12th Street riot in 1967.

On last night’s episode of “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” they featured a ton of music-related segments. Watch the Flaming Lips perform “The Castle” from their upcoming album Oczy Mlody, and talk about having multiple Hells Angels encounters while on tour; “Portlandia”’s Fred Armisen chat with Jimmy Fallon and read fake proverbs; the Roots do their classic reenactment of “The Bachelor” and freestyle songs about audience members; and John Legend jokily break down the lyrics of his song “All of Me” below. Wayne Coyne and Armisen played a game called “Humannequins” with Queen Latifah as well which is below too.
The Flaming Lips also appeared on “Portlandia” as two different sets of Flaming Lips.
