Chance the Rapper announces that he will release a new album, entitled “Surf”

After releasing the Acid Rap mixtape last April, Chance the Rapper released a string of singles, standlone tracks, random collaborations, and remixes, limiting himself at how much he puts the out. In a recent interview with Billboard, the Chance said he has for a new album entitled, Surf, that he recorded with The Social Experiment, his band. Te album which will be available for free download and could be released by the end of the year.

Chance clarified that this new album would be “the first Social Experiment project” and not a solo album. The album will also feature trumpet player Donnie Trumpet (aka Nico Segal).

Chance explained: The band has been backing me on a lot of the shows, so when you go to a Chance the Rapper show it’s billed as a Chance the Rapper show, and even though you bought a ticket for a Chance the Rapper show, you end up going to a Social Experiment concert, you know? And you get the full experience of the musicality of four seasoned players.”

Chance seeking to to explore new influences, since he is now a band leader, delved into theater, which he incorporates into his live shows. Saying, “It’s something different. It’s something new. It’s a bit of theater, It’s a culmination of going to all these dope concerts and seeing cool Broadway plays. A lot of influence has come from The Lion King musical. You could probably tell if you listen to ‘Arthur’. We’ve been trying to take in all these cool, different outside cultural experiences and make that into a free listenable project. That’s the new thing.”

Also, Chance has been collaborating a number of big-named artists such Pharrell, Frank Ocean, Rick Rubin, the members of Migos, J. Cole, and Emily King.

London Grammar Postponed Tour Dates

Indie rock outfit, London Grammar, have postponed dates on their upcoming North American tour which was supposed to begin this month. The band rescheduled the affected dates to January and February 2015. Tickets purchased for the November tour will be valid for the new dates.

The tour is in support of their debut album, If You Wait.

The statement reads:

“Due to unavoidable scheduling conflicts, it is with great regret that we have had to postpone our tour dates in November. We apologize to all of our fans for any inconvenience caused and look forward to seeing you in January and February 2015 for what we hope will be a very special tour.” – Dan, Dot and Hannah / London Grammar

Pearl Jam Plays New Song “Moline” and Perform No Code in Entirety In Moline

Alternative Nation brings up the fact that fans at Pearl Jam show in Moline, Illinois last night were given huge surprises.

Pearl Jam set include a completely unannounced performance of their fourth studio album, No Code in its entirety. This marked the second time in the their history that they played an album in whole in concert, according to Eddie Vedder.

The band also debuted a brand new song called “Moline” to start their first encore. Vedder wrote the song 10 minutes before the show and said it was related to the band’s single, “Better Man”.

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club Leah Shapiro to Get Brain Surgery

Drummer for Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Leah Shapiro has shared the news that she will have surgery to treat Chiari Malformations in her brain. The “structural defects” made it virtually impossible for her to play the drums it has altered her balance, sense of coordination, and caused symptoms such as dizziness, headaches, and tingling/numbness in her hands.

The band has since canceled all tour dates for now. Shapiro expressed sadness over missing the upcoming dates, Shapiro, however, has remained optimistic about her recovery. In a personal message posted on the band’s Facebook page earlier, she wrote:

I wanted to share something very personal with you in the hopes that my experience can help others.
A few weeks ago, I started experiencing some unusual symptoms, including dizziness, insomnia, headaches, tingling/numbness in my hands, stiff neck & pain. Even for a drummer, these symptoms were unusual for me so I went to the doctor to get it checked out.

After having some pretty exotic tests, they have diagnosed me with something called Chiari Malformations, or CMs for short. Essentially, CM’s are structural defects in part of the brain and skull which control balance and other functions, such as the flow of cerebrospinal fluid, which is the liquid that surrounds and cushions the brain & spinal cord.

CM has different causes. Some are caused by structural defects in the brain & spinal cord that occur during pregnancy. It can also occur later in life through a number of different causes. But however it happened, I’ve got it and as bad as it is, I’m grateful that they caught it now so that I can have it addressed before things get worse.

The good news is that there’s a surgical solution for it that is usually effective. The bad news is that when Rob, Pete & I tried to rehearse this week for the Moon Block Festival on Saturday, I realized that the effects of this illness has made it impossible for me to play drums. I just can’t do the music any justice right now. And so, it is with deep regret that we’re going to have to pull out of the show on Saturday. The festival site at http://www.moonblockparty.org will have information on the show. I still urge you to attend the show, as there are a lot of great bands playing there.

As you can imagine, I’m hardly looking forward to having my skull cracked open and my brain operated on, but it’s the only thing that’s going to help me get better. And while the thought of not being able to play drums for several months while I recover from the surgery totally sucks, I’m determined to make a full recovery and get back to playing music with Rob & Pete as soon as I can.

Foo Fighters Premiere New Song, “Something From Nothing”

Foo Fighters released their first single from their new album, Sonic Highways. The single, “Something From Nothing,” which was recorded in Chicago, is ferocious and hypnotic, but it’s not as Foo Fighters song without Dave Grohl’s signature growl.

The premiere is one day before the band’s TV series documenting the making of the album starts on HBO.

Sonic Highways will be officially released on November 10th via Rockwell Recordings. Recording the album across the country at various recording studios, the band documented the process on the HBO show. The album also has multiple of guest, including Ben Gibbard (Death Cab For Cutie), Joe Walsh (The Eagles), Rick Nielsen (Cheap Trick), and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band. Listen to the song below.

Stream Jessie Ware’s New Album Now

Tough Love, Jessie Ware’s new album, will be officially released next week on October 21st. In the LP is streaming in full via NPR.org, in anticipation. The sophomore album will highlight her new confidence, according to a press release.

Tough Love is the follow-up to Devotion, released in 2012. The album was produced by the duo, BenZel (Benny Blanco and Two Inch Punch). The album features artists such as Miguel, Blood Orange’s Dev Hynes, and Ed Sheeran.

Ware has also recently spoken to The 405 on the LP’s collaborators, but talking about her bolder role in its creation:

“There aren’t really too many new faces, this time round. It might look like that, but it’s just the same lot from the last album, really, and a few extra friends. The main new collaborator, I guess, is BenZel; they kind of exec’d half the album, but I’ve known both of them, individually, for years. If there is one voice to the record, it has to come from me; I think I’ve managed it, too, because I really had grown in confidence. I was able to put my foot down a little bit more, and just say “that’s what I want.” I know if it sits right with me.”

Top 10 Moments of Austin City Limits Weekend Two

10. The Calvin Harris set in its entirety. It was as if the audience almost shook the ground during the set. Mixing a variety of songs, such as “I Don’t Care” by Icona Pop, Harris seemed virtually unstoppable and looked as though he was on top of the world. Many fans had been at the festival since 9, or even earlier, in the morning waiting for Harris, thus making the experience all the worthwhile.

9. When Davy Havoc from AFI crowdsurfed. He went into the crowd various occasions while singing. However, this time, he climbed over the front few rows and balanced himself amongst audience members  to finish off one of the songs. Many fans were glad he had stepped over, and on, them, receiving bragging rights for the rest of their lives.

8. The absolute raw energy during Spoon’s set. The Austin natives seem to have an unwavering attitude to them that keeps crowds coming performance after performance. Their set during this festival was no exception. There is absolutely no beating watching Spoon play as the sun begins to set in the background.

7. Temples’ style and performance. The way the band dresses and sound makes their listeners and audience time travel back to the 1970’s. With that sort of early Led Zeppelin influenced style and psychedelic rock sound, there is nothing that could make Temples’ set more enjoyable.

6. Mø’s general vibe towards the audiences. It seemed as though she treated everyone as if they were on stage with her as she spent a few songs actually in the crowd.

5. How happy Fitz and the Tantrums seemed to be performing at the festival. Performing both weekends and a show in between in Austin, it seemed as though they were still genuinely ecstatic that they were able to perform three times in a row in the Austin.

4. Jack Antonoff’s energy. Playing during what felt like the hottest part of the day, Bleachers seemed unstoppable when it comes down to their energy, and maybe a part of that were a part of that.

3. When St. Vincent pulled an Eddie Vedder and climbed up on the side of the stage and began acting as though she was falling off. Her set overall was the typical wildness that she is so closely related to. At the end of her set, she stole a hat, glasses, and a crutch from various audience members in the front row and wore them until she left the stage.

2. Outkast. Currently on a reunion festival tour, Outkast seems to be just as exciting as they were when they were just starting out.

1. Finally, Young and Sick never seem to disappoint in a live setting. The feeling from listening to their music is so unmatched.
