The guitarist for My Morning Jacket, Carl Broemel has announced his latest solo album, 4th of July. The album will be released August 19 through Stocks in Asia/Thirty Tigers. Listen to the first single, “Sleep Lagoon,” below. It was recorded in his downtime from My Morning Jacket, and Broemel’s new LP will feature contributions from Neko Case, Laura Veirs, and Jacket bandmates Bo Koster and Tom Blankenship. Watch My Morning Jacket Join Roger Waters At Newport Folk Festival
Roger Waters from Pink Floyd headlined the Newport Folk Festival last night, which marked his first time performing live since 2013. Earlier in the day, My Morning Jacket performed a surprise set and they served as Waters’ backing band. Waters set began with the live debut of “Crystal Clear Brooks,” a new song, and the acoustic performance included a few of Pink Floyd classics as well as covers, including a Bob Dylan tribute 5o years after Dylan’s famous electric set at the festival. Singer Amy Helm, who is the daughter of the late Levon Helm, Lucius, fiddler Sara Watkins, and guitarist G.E. Smith joined the performance as well.
