Watch My Morning Jacket Join Roger Waters At Newport Folk Festival

Roger Waters from Pink Floyd headlined the Newport Folk Festival last night, which marked his first time performing live since 2013. Earlier in the day, My Morning Jacket performed a surprise set and they served as Waters’ backing band. Waters set began with the live debut of “Crystal Clear Brooks,” a new song, and the acoustic performance included a few of Pink Floyd classics as well as covers, including a Bob Dylan tribute 5o years after Dylan’s famous electric set at the festival. Singer Amy Helm, who is the daughter of the late Levon Helm, Lucius, fiddler Sara Watkins, and guitarist G.E. Smith joined the performance as well. Watch some fan-shot footage of the collaboration below.

Setlist:
“Crystal Clear Brooks” (live debut)
“Mother” (Pink Floyd)
“The Bravery Of Being Out Of Range”
“Hello In There” (John Prine cover)
“Wish You Were Here” (with Sara Watkins) (Pink Floyd)
“Wide River To Cross” (Buddy Miller cover) (with Amy Helm)
“Amused To Death”
“Brain Damage” (Pink Floyd)
“Eclipse” (Pink Floyd)
“Forever Young” (Bob Dylan cover) (with Sara Watkins and Amy Helm)

Prince announces The Hit & Run Album

Prince released a new track named “HARDROCKLOVER” on his Soundcloud. Now, 3rdEyeGirl, his band, revealed to BBC 6 Music that a new record will come later this year. It is entitled The Hit & Run Album.

3rdEyeGirl told 6 Music: “Super hardcore Prince fans that know every song he’s ever recorded – we refer to them as ‘The Purple Collective’ or ‘The Purple Army’ – this album is absolutely for them, because it’s super funky. It’s weird, there’s a lot of experimental sound. It’s just hit after hit and definitely caters to those fans who just love to hear what Prince has to say, rather than wanting to always hear that classic Purple Rain Prince sound.”

The record will feature deep cut “1,000 Hugs and Kisses” and a new version of “This Could Be Us,” that was originally on last year’s Art Official Age.

Mac DeMarco invites fans to his house to have coffee

After wanting to soundtrack your summer barbeque, Mac DeMarco wants to invite you over for coffee. Seriously. “My House by the Water,” the finishing song on his new mini-LP, Another One, ends with DeMarco giving out the address to his home in Far Rockaway, New York and inviting people over for a cup o’ joe.

“The way I rationalize it, to have the address you’ll have to listen to the album to the very end,” DeMarco said to the Wall Street Journal. “Second, to even consider coming to my house you have to be a kind of a superfan. And thirdly, it’s in such a weird part of New York that if they actually get there, they deserve a cup of coffee.”

Another One  was leaked a few weeks ago and DeMarco estimates the 30 people have come to his door. When the album gets released on August 7th, there will be ever more of a trek to the singer’s “kind of sketchy” neighborhood for coffee and a chat.

Thundercat premieres video for “Them Changes”

Thundercat is set to go on a North American tour for the mini-album, The Beyond/Where the Giants Roam. Before, however, the singer/producer/bassist has released the video for LP track, “Them Changes.” The clip, directed by Carlos Lopez Estrada (Dave Sitek’s Maximum Balloon, Capital Cities), has samurai battling one another.

Estrada explained the narrative behind the video in a press release:

“Thundercat’s take on heartbreak is so atypical that I figured the video for the song should be anything but a classic relationship-gone-wrong story. Stories like athletes’ careers ending after injuries or artists losing their site [sic]/hearing/ability to perform; these concepts are truly heartbreaking. I also know that Thundercat has a thing for samurais — so I saw an opportunity to make everyone happy here. Or everyone sad, I guess.”
