Thundercat has released a track called “Final Fight.” Listen below. It is the latest song on Adult Swim’s ongoing Singles Program. “Final Fight” is his first new song since Drunk, the album he released last year.
Thundercat was joined by two special guests when he performed at Irving Plaza in New York City tonight over the course of his set: Robert Glasper, who came to sit in on keys, and later Dave Chappelle, who came on the stage to take the mic as Thundercat and Glasper played behind him. While talking to the crowd, Chappelle said, “Ladies and gentlemen: on stage tonight is the musical virtuosos… They spent hours and hours of their life practicing their craft, and tonight we get to enjoy the sum total of their work. Make some noise for your band.” He went on, “Thundercat, take this bass solo wherever you wanna go, ’cause we with you all the way, my brother, for real.” Watch it below, as well as some other clips from the show.

Afropunk has announced the lineup for this year’s Brooklyn festival, which is set to take place August 27-28th at Commodore Barry Park. Ice Cube, Janelle Monáe, Tyler the Creator, TV On The Radio, Flying Lotus, the Internet, Cee Lo Green, George Clinton, Angel Haze, Kelela, Saul Williams, Skunk Anansie, Shabazz Palaces, Thundercat, Trash Talk, Prayers, and Downtown Boys will perform, as well as a “Superjam” from members of Bad Brains, Fishbone, and Living Colour. The theme is “Power to the Party;” check out the manifesto below and the poster above. Afropunk released the following statement about the theme:
Power, it’s a feeling, it’s an energy, it’s the undisputed connection between cause and effect – the best of us give it away, the worst usurp it, but living modern life to the fullest, means either mastering your relationship to it or walking in its shadow. We are not blind.Party is an oxymoron, it’s a gathering of many for a shared purpose and it’s also an outcast individual, it’s a lively social occasion as well as a gang – and the story of any party is never over, because like naked cities and the metaphysical “I”, there’s always another take.Power to the Party means trusting the friction, the transference of great capacity to the free spirit, belief in the high-heeled spark of the assembly, and the group-mind’s ability to choose a glorious path. This isn’t about getting elected, or being protected; it’s about staking a claim.Join the party and feel its power
Thundercat sat down for an interview recently with Sydney’s FBi Radio, but he had brought more to the table than just his thoughts on collaborator Flying Lotus and Erykah Badu. The producer also debuted a previously unheard song.
The untitled jazz number features guest contributions from Mono/Poly, an electronic musician who previously was featured on Thundercat’s instrumental tribute to the victims of November’s Paris terror attacks. Thundercat can be heard referencing Kendrick Lamar a few minutes into the song, singing, “Bitch, don’t kill my vibe.”
Stream the song here (find it at the 14:20 mark).

Adult Swim’s 2015 Singles program has given the long-awaited comeback of Ghostface Killah and DOOM’s project DOOMSTARKS recently. The summer music series has now helped to facilitate another meeting of minds.
This week’s release, named “The Lavishments of Light Looking”, acts as the official debut of WOKE, a supergroup made up of Flying Lotus, Shabazz Palaces, and Thundercat. The track was produced by Flying Lotus and much like its creators, has elements of hip-hop, electronic, jazz fusion, funk, and more. George Clinton also provides guest vocals on the song.
