Listen to Future Islands’ “Seasons” reworked by jazz trio, BadBadNotGood

The experimental jazz outfit, BadBadNotGood, over the past few months, have contributed to notable hip-hop tracks from artists such as Ghostface Killah and Danny Brown, and Black Milk. The trio now moved to a different direction into synth pop with their reworking of “Seasons (Waiting on You)” by Future Islands.

This remix gives the frontman, Sam T. Herring, a different kind of background for his intense vocals.

First authorized Kurt Cobain documentary to air on HBO

The first “fully authorized” documentary of the late Nirvana frontman will air on HBO.

Montage of Heck is set to premiere on HBO next year. The documentary is directed by Brett Morgen and is billed as the first “fully authorized” documentary about Kurt Cobain’s life. It was made with the help of his family, and his daughter, Frances Bean who served as an executive producer.

The documentary has “dozens of Nirvana songs and performances as well as perviously unheard Cobain originals, no-holds-barred access to Kurt Cobain’s archives, home to his never-before-seen home movies, recordings, artwork, photography, journals, demos, personal archives, family archives and songbooks,” according to a press release. Morgen says:

I started work on this project eight years ago. Like most people, when I started, I figured there would be limited amounts of fresh material to unearth. However, once I stepped into Kurt’s archive, I discovered over 200 hours of unreleased music and audio, a vast array of art projects (oil paintings, sculptures), countless hours of never-before-seen home movies, and over 4000 pages of writings that together help paint an intimate portrait of an artist who rarely revealed himself to the media.

Montage of Heck is named after a mixtape Cobain made in 1988; it surfaced earlier this year.

Amy Adams to portray Janis Joplin in biopic

The Academy Award nominated Amy Adams is set to protest the rock legend, Janis Joplin in the upcoming biopic, Get It While You Can.

Adams was initially believed to play Joplin in 2010 but the film has been in development purgatory since then. However, it was reported that Adams was removed from the project in 2012 and was replaced with Tony Award winner, Nina Arianda.

The producers of the film are now in search for a director with the main cast set. They have focused on the director of Dallas Buyers Club, Jean-Marc Vallée. The filming is intended to begin in the second half of 2015.

These next few years will feature many impressive new biopics, such as Paul Dano as Brian Wilson.

An app offers unlimited concerts for $25 a month

Concert tickets tend to be dominated by large companies such as Ticketmaster and StubHub. However, there is a new startup that could change the market with their new approach: offering their users unlimited subscriptions to concerts around their city for $25 a month.

The idea for the app, Jukely, comes from the idea of concert promoter Bora Celik and co-designer of Kickstarter, Andrew Cornett. The app uses a method in order to figure out your taste in music and will match you with people who like the same kind and will suggest concerts you could go together. The app, according to the co-creators, have already claimed 30 million people and their friends via the platform.

The catch, because there’s always one, is that it does not have access to concerts from bigger acts. Instead, the app is supposed to “fill the room and expose folks to bands that are just starting to blow up, but have enough of a presence to sell a few of their own tickets, too.”

How exactly will Jukely be able to provide so many concerts to their users? The app, according to Celik, is a “win-win” for both the app and concert promoters because both will be able to garner revenue from originally unsold tickets. But, what has remained unclear is whether or not the artist will receive a chunk.

Launched last April during Techstars New York City conference, Jukely raised $2.5 million just last month thanks to a number of sponsors, such as Spotify and Northzone.

The app currently is operating in 17 venues in New York City and will expand in the upcoming future. The company hopes to use the money it has raised to expand into Los Angeles and San Francisco early next year.

Interpol stranded on Buffalo Highway for 40 hours due to snowstorm

As the country continues to be in the middle of a deep freeze, Interpol, an alternative rock band, gets caught in Buffalo, New York’s record-breaking blizzard. Currently trapped in heavy winds and taken over by nearly 60-plus inches of snow, the band’s tour bus has been in the same location for more than 40 hours.

Interpol were on their way to Toronto, Ontario after their show in Columbus Ohio Monday night when the snowstorm started to occur. The band had to cancel their show in Toronto and Montreal, Quebec due to the fact that they do not know when they can move.

Banshee Bones: the unstoppable traveling band

Having released their latest album, Birds of Prey, over a year ago, there is no stopping the high-energy rock band, Banshee Bones, from playing shows virtually nonstop. Currently on their Last Legs tour, the band has been on the road for eleven weeks and will continue to be for the next four, capping it off at a show in Las Vegas on December 12.

A rock band based out of Los Angeles, California, Banshee Bones are tirelessly making new material and touring. Brothers, Eugene (lead singer) and Ryan Rice (drummer), met Joe Perez (guitarist) and Salem Romo (bassist) at the famous Musicians Institute in Hollywood, California, while studying there. Behind their eccentric name, Eugene describes it as the fact that “the banshee in Irish mythology is supposed be kinda like the grim reaper it comes and brings souls that are lost back to where they started so it is kinda harrowing or beckoning to bring people back to [like] the roots of rock.”

Touring and constantly being on the move leaves the young band with various opportunities and bizarre experiences. Whether it is being held up at gun point or playing at the Los Angeles Fetish Film Festival, the band will be left with stories for years to come. Hailing their recent show in Seattle as one of their best shows, one of the reasons was due to the crowd response and the city’s love for old school rock.

The inspiration behind Birds of Prey was to put something different from their previous releases, Life & Limb and Banshee Bones. Explaining that the band gathered inspiration from themselves, Perez stated that “I think we kinda inspired ourselves to put out something new and better than our old stuff and I think we kinda zoned in on that and wanted to make a really original, creative, new album and go on a little bit of a different direction than our EP was.” Eugene added that they did not want to put out the same type of material they have done in the past because “that’s not what being a musician is.” Romo said that he wanted to make something “harder and more rock’n’roll.”

Currently playing shows in Texas, the band plans to play shows on their way back to California such as Tucson and Prescott. For the dates, the remaining dates are below.
