Chance explains Chicago political system in new video

Chance the Rapper has released a new video poking fun at Chicago’s Aldermanic System. The 15-minute video shows Chance as an investigative reporter for Chicagoist, Champ Bennett, who interviews pedestrians, candidates for Chicago’s upcoming Aldermanic elections, and Hannibal Buress, who is a cynical 75-year-old Alderman named Al Durham. Watch it all below.

The video shows Chance discussinga the role of Chicago’s Aldermen, who governs the city’s 50 wards. Chance explains that many of the factors that are preventing younger and more diverse candidates from being elected are that candidates cannot run if they have been convicted of a felony, or if they owe a penny of debt or tax dollars to the city. Chance replies to these rules with, “wow, that shit sounds racist.”

Chicago’s Aldermanic elections are February 26, 2019.
