The Shins putting final touches on their first album in four years

On Thursday night, The Shins’ frontman James Mercer posted a video on Instagram that had a fragment of a new song with the message: “Final mixing of a new Shins record is underway. I’ll post more soon! J”.When finished, the album will be the band’s first since 2012’s Port of Morrow, fitting in with their trend of releasing a new album every four or five years.Check out the new clip below via The Shins’ official Instagram.

Schoolboy Q was the musical guest on “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” last night. He performed “THat Part” from his upcoming album Blank Face, which is due out July 8th through Top Dawg Entertainment. Watch the performance below.

Angel Olsen rollerskates in “Shut Up Kiss Me” video

Angel Olsen’s new album My Woman is due out on September 2nd via Jagjaguwar. After releasing “Intern,” she returns with another track from her follow-up to Burn Your Fire for No Witness. It is called “Shut Up Kiss Me,” and in the self-directed video, she rollerskates while wearing a glittery silver wig. She relaxes on top of a car, rolls downhill, and gets dragged around a roller rink.

Austin festival Sound on Sound announces inaugural lineup

Graham Williams, who is the founder of Austin’s beloved Fun Fun Fun Fest, split recently from Transmission Events, the concert-promoting company behind Fun Fun Fun Fest, and he began a new company called Margin Walker. Fun Fun Fun Fest may or may not happen this year still. But Williams began a new festival called Sound On Sound and it has practically taken over the Fun Fun Fun. The first Sound On Sound festival is going to be at Austin’s Sherwood Forest Faire 11/4-6, and it’s got an all-over-the-place lineup including Beach House, Phantogram, Run The Jewels, Big Boi, Purity Ring, Descendents, and local Austinites Explosions In The Sky. Aesop Rock becomes a puppet, plays with cat in new “Kirby” video

Aesop Rock’s latest album, The Impossible Kid, was released in May. He has shared a new video today for album track “Kirby.” Directed by Toben Seymour, the video stars a puppet Aesop playing with a real and cute cat. The cat, whose name is really Dina, was a rescue cat who has been adopted since the shooting of the video. Watch it below.

Rihanna’s Star Trek single “Sledgehammer” coming out tomorrow

Rihanna has shared a video on Instagram where she announced a new song, “Sledgehammer,” which is set to premiere tomorrow. She said on Twitter that the song will be out “by 8am EST for a special premiere.” The track will be on the soundtrack for the upcoming Star Trek sequel, Star Trek: Beyond (out July 22). Devendra Banhart announces new album Ape in Pink Marble, shares new track “Middle Names”

Devendra Banhart has announced that his ninth album, Ape in Pink Marble, is due to be out on September 23rd through Nonesuch. Ape in Pink Marble is his follow-up to Mala. He made it in collaboration with Noah Georgeson and Josiah Steinbrick. Banhart has released the album’s first song, “Middle Names,” which you can listen to below. Chance the Rapper announces European Magnificant Coloring Book tours

Chance the Rapper earlier this week announced the North American dates for his upcoming Magnificent Coloring World tour, to delete his latest release, Coloring Book. Today, he shared dates for the European leg of the tour, and said that Australian dates will be announced soon as well. Chance will play in Copenhagen on November 15th and make stops in Berlin and London. He will finish it in Paris on November 21st. He will be with Samm Henshaw and Jay Prince during the European dates. You can find the full itinerary for his tour below.

Of Montreal announces tour

Of Montreal’s new release Innocence Reaches is set to be out on August 12th via Polyvinyl. After the album’s release, the band will set out on a massive tour. They will have dates all over North America, starting in Athens, Georgia and ending, in Atlanta. During several dates, they’ll be joined by TEEN.
