Listen to Spoon’s new song “Hot Thoughts”

Spoon have released the title song from their just-announced album Hot Thoughts. Listen to it below. The album is set to be out March 17th via Matador. The album’s 10 tracks were co-produced by Spoon and Dave Fridmann. The band also announced a three-night residency in Austin during SXSW, which also is the same week as the album’s release. “The band will resurrect the original, classic Austin venue Emo’s location, currently referred to as ‘The Main’ on March 14, 15 and 16,” a press release reads. “The band will curate a unique line up each night and will stubbornly be referring to the venue as ‘Eno’s.’”

Watch Bon Iver perform a stripped-down “Babys” at Berlin collaborative event

Bon Iver went to Funkhaus studios in Berlin in early October of last year for Michelberger Music, an art event/festival that Justin Vernon helped organized with the National’s Aaron and Bryce Dessner, and others. Artists came together for performances, workshops, collaborations, and more. Vernon participated in a techno jam as well as play some of the first 22, A Million performances with his band. A new video from the event has appeared which features Vernon performing his song “Babys” from the Blood Bank EP with collaborator S. Carey. Watch it below.

Watch Sampha perform “(No One Knows Me) Like the Piano” on “Fallon”

Sampha’s latest album Process is due to be out February 3rd via Young Turks. He was the musical guest on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” last night. Watch him perform his new single “(No One Knows Me) Like the Piano.”

Foxygen shares video for new song “On Lankershim”

Foxygen have released the video for their new song “On Lankershim,” off of their upcoming album Hang. Directed by Foxygen and Danny Lacy, the lo-fi clip shows the band driving around Los Angeles and hang out around the house, dancing and playing video games. Watch it below.

Hang is due to be out January 20th via Jagjaguwar.

Watch Flaming Lips perform, play Game with Fred Armisen and Queen Latifah on “Fallon”

On last night’s episode of “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” they featured a ton of music-related segments. Watch the Flaming Lips perform “The Castle” from their upcoming album Oczy Mlody, and talk about having multiple Hells Angels encounters while on tour; “Portlandia”’s Fred Armisen chat with Jimmy Fallon and read fake proverbs; the Roots do their classic reenactment of “The Bachelor” and freestyle songs about audience members; and John Legend jokily break down the lyrics of his song “All of Me” below. Wayne Coyne and Armisen played a game called “Humannequins” with Queen Latifah as well which is below too.

The Flaming Lips also appeared on “Portlandia” as two different sets of Flaming Lips.

Nicolas Jaar shares Sirens “Network Version” with bonus tracks

Nicolas Jaar released his latest studio album Sirens last fall. Today, he shared the “Network Version” of the album that was streamed on his Other People online radio channel before the actual release date of the album. It includes bonus tracks, including “Wildflower,” which can be listened to below.

Spoon debuted five new songs at secret show in Austin

Spoon played a somewhat secret show at Antone’s in Austin, their hometown, Friday night where they five songs from their upcoming ninth studio album. It is due out in March via Matador. The band announced the set to select fans on their email list Thursday night, including the link to an already-booked show which featured local acts Jai Malano and Don Leady & His Rockin’ Revue. As Austin 360 reports, both acts moved their sets back to allow Spoon to appear as the show’s opener.

After premiering the new songs from their untitled ninth LP, Spoon also played four of their other hits. As described by Austin 360, the new material as “mostly of a piece with the sharp-edged, punk-fueled pop that dominates the band’s back catalog, with no major sonic departures other than their gradual shift in recent years toward more reliance on keyboards.”

The Shins announce album Heartworms, share new song

The Shins have announced their much-anticipated new album, Heartworms. The follow-up to Port of Morrow is set to be out March 10th via Columbia. It includes the previously released “Dead Alive,” and a new track called “Name for You,” which you can listen to below as well as the tracklist.

They also announced tour dates in support of the album. See the itinerary below. James Mercer will be joined by Yuuki Matthews (bass), Jon Sortland (drums), Mark Watrous (guitar, keys, vocals), Casey Foubert (guitar) and Patti King (keys) on this tour, according to a press release.
