They’re on the cover, which you can see above. “Being in an X-Men comic where they (the X-Men themselves) actually run security at one of our shows… I should have written a song about that,” Wayne Coyne said in a statement. “I mean… before it really happened.” The Toadies will appear as well in the issue. “As an X-Men fan since 1977 this is a dream come true,” Toadies bassist Doni Blair told Billboard. Except for a few remixes and covers, Local Natives have had low visibility after the release of 2013’s Hummingbird until this week. After social media teasers and a last-minute announcement of an intimate San Francisco show, the LA indie rock band have released a brand new song called “Past Lives.”
The band’s Taylor Rice spoke about the track in a statement, saying:
“The world is not static, it’s made new over and over again. But we tend to live the same patterns in a loop, loving the same way, wrestling the same demons, the same dynamics playing out around us again and again. Untangling every moment and decision that led us to where we are now can make fate feel concrete, inescapable. But our world is not fixed, it’s constantly reemerging, and we can change it into whatever we want.”
The band has revamped its website, uploaded a new press photo, and played new material at last night’s Bay Area show. Local Natives are also set to perform at a number of festivals this summer, including Lollapalooza and End of the Road.
