R.I.P. David Bowie

David Bowie died yesterday after fighting cancer for 18 months. His Facebook page made the announcement this morning: he died “peacefully” while surrounded by family. He turned 69 Friday, the same day of the release of his last album, ★ (Blackstar). Read the Facebook statement below. 

Bowie’s son, Duncan Jones, film director, confirmed his death on Twitter, tweeting a photo of himself as an infant with Bowie, “very sorry and sad to say it’s true.” The Hollywood Reporter also confirmed it. 

There will never be such a creative force like Bowie.

Atlas Sound announces Let the Blind Lead Those Who Can See But Cannot Feel reissue

The solo project from Bradford Cox of Deerhunter, release its debut album debut album Let the Blind Lead Those Who Can See But Cannot Feel in 2008. Cox announced today that the album will be reissued on vinyl and a double-CD February 19 via 4AD. As well as Let the Blind‘s original tracklist, the reissue will have Atlas Sound’s 2008 EP Another Bedroom. See the full tracklisting below.
Atlas Sound last release was Parallax in 2011. Deerhunter’s recent album, Fading Frontier, came out last year.

Governor’s Ball lineup has been announced

The Governors Ball Music Festival will take place between June 3-5 on Randall’s Island in New York City. The festival has shared its full 2016 lineup today. Kanye West, the Strokes, and the Killers headline. The poster was created by Kanye’s creative agency, DONDA.

The lineup will also include Eagles of Death Metal, Beck, Robyn, Death Cab for Cutie, M83, Haim, Chvrches, Father John Misty, Jamie xx, Bloc Party, Miguel, Big Grams, Action Bronson, Purity Ring, Courtney Barnett, Joey Bada$$, De La Soul, Vince Staples, Against Me!, Bat for Lashes, Thundercat, Torres, Bully, and many more.

Kanye had previously headlined the festival back in 2013 and the Strokes in 2014.

Father John Misty expands tour

Father John Misty has announced more dates on his tour behind I Love You, Honeybear. He will play various shows across North America in the spring followed by a European leg. Find the itinerary below.

Josh Tillman will appear on “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” on January 14 as well.

Foals perform “Mountains At My Gates” on Colbert

During the recording process of Foals’ latest album, What Went Down, singer Yannis Philippakis said he had channeled his “inner madman.” Philippakis’s feeling of chaos can be heard on the new LP as well in the live show.

The English band’s performance on Colbert last night showed this immensely. Foals gave a passionate performance of their single, “Mountains At My Gate.” Watch the replay below.

 

Wild Nothing share breezy new song “Reichpop”

Wild Nothing has shared “Reichpop,” a new breezy and shimmery new track from his upcoming Life of Pause album. Listen to it below. It is precedded by “TV Queen” and “To Know You,” which were out back in November.

Sia set to perform first live concert in five years this summer

Sia has performed astounding performance after another for TV audiences the last couple of years, including Saturday Night Live, Ellen, and the Grammys. This summer, the Austrailian singer will take back the live stage in her first concert in five years.

Sia is set to make her comeback to live music at Finland’s Flow Festival, which takes place from August 12th to 14th. Her appearance will be in support of her sixth studio LP, This Is Acting, due on January 29th.

Pusha T releases “M.P.A.” video with A$AP Rocky and The-Dream

Pusha T has shared the most recent video from his new album, King Push – Darkest Before Dawn: The Prelude. The “M.P.A.” video, directed by Shomy Patwary, has vocalists A$AP Rocky and The-Dream relaxing on a video set. (The other guest on the song, Kanye, did not appear.) Watch it below.

Aretha Franklin performs “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman” at Kennedy Center Honors

Aretha Franklin was invited to perform at the Kennedy Center Honors’ 2015 tribute to Carole King earlier this month, and now there is footage of the song she had played: 1967’s “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman”.

President Obama is seen wiping what appears to be a tear from his eye during the performance right before the audience gives an emphatic standing ovation. Carole King, during this, is immensely impressed. meanwhile. Watch the video via NME below.
