At SXSW yesterday, Eric Andre shared a preview of his upcoming season of “The Eric Andre Show,” as Pigeons and Planes pointed out. He premiered a sketch called “Rapper Warrior Ninja,” a hip-hop parody version of “Ninja Warrior,” the show where people attempt to complete a strenuous obstacle course. Danny Brown, A$AP Rocky, and Go Dreamer freestyled their way through Andre’s hazardous course while blindfolded. The MCs attempted to perform while they navigated through soiled underwear, a mouse trap plank, “ball swing alley,” and a snake pit. Co-host Hannibal Buress watched, telling them, “Don’t stop rapping!”
Last week, Majical Cloudz announced that they would be breaking up. The duo played their final live show on Thursday at La Sala Rossa in their hometown of Montreal. As announced, there was no opening performance, with the band choosing to play an extended set as a farewell to their fans. See fan-shot footage from the concert below via Stereogum.
Both members of Majical Cloudz are going to continue working on music after the band splits. Devon Welsh will pursue a solo project as Matt Otto will release music under The Dahlia while continuing to compose and produce records.
Welsh formed Majical Cloudz with Matthew E. Duffy, and the duo released their self-titled debut cassette in 2010. Otto joined the band after Duffy’s departure in 2011. Welsh and Otto released two albums, 2013’s Impersonator and last year’s Are You Alone?, and the EPs Turns Turns Turns and Wait & See.
