Local Natives premiere new song “Past Lives”

Except for a few remixes and covers, Local Natives have had low visibility after the release of 2013’s Hummingbird until this week. After social media teasers and a last-minute announcement of an intimate San Francisco show, the LA indie rock band have released a brand new song called “Past Lives.”

The band’s Taylor Rice spoke about the track in a statement, saying:

“The world is not static, it’s made new over and over again. But we tend to live the same patterns in a loop, loving the same way, wrestling the same demons, the same dynamics playing out around us again and again. Untangling every moment and decision that led us to where we are now can make fate feel concrete, inescapable. But our world is not fixed, it’s constantly reemerging, and we can change it into whatever we want.”

Stream “Past Lives” below.

Even though this is the first official release of “Past Lives,” the song has been performed live in the past and on an episode of Netflix’s Flaked.

The band has revamped its website, uploaded a new press photo, and played new material at last night’s Bay Area show. Local Natives are also set to perform at a number of festivals this summer, including Lollapalooza and End of the Road.

First clip from upcoming Tupac biopic appears on Instagram

There is finally a first glimpse of All Eyez On Me, the upcoming Tupac Shakur biopic from Morgan Creek Productions. Principal filming recently ended in Las Vegas and, as FACT Magazine says, some of the footage from the editing room made its way onto Instagram.

The clip shows a contentious courthouse interview during his sexual assault trial in 1994. Actor Demetrius Shipp, Jr., who looks so much like Pac that it’s hard to tell the clip apart from the actual video, says one of the rapper’s most famous quotes: “I’m not angry at them, I’m angry at the system.”
