Amy Adams to portray Janis Joplin in biopic

The Academy Award nominated Amy Adams is set to protest the rock legend, Janis Joplin in the upcoming biopic, Get It While You Can.

Adams was initially believed to play Joplin in 2010 but the film has been in development purgatory since then. However, it was reported that Adams was removed from the project in 2012 and was replaced with Tony Award winner, Nina Arianda.

The producers of the film are now in search for a director with the main cast set. They have focused on the director of Dallas Buyers Club, Jean-Marc Vallée. The filming is intended to begin in the second half of 2015.

These next few years will feature many impressive new biopics, such as Paul Dano as Brian Wilson.

An app offers unlimited concerts for $25 a month

Concert tickets tend to be dominated by large companies such as Ticketmaster and StubHub. However, there is a new startup that could change the market with their new approach: offering their users unlimited subscriptions to concerts around their city for $25 a month.

The idea for the app, Jukely, comes from the idea of concert promoter Bora Celik and co-designer of Kickstarter, Andrew Cornett. The app uses a method in order to figure out your taste in music and will match you with people who like the same kind and will suggest concerts you could go together. The app, according to the co-creators, have already claimed 30 million people and their friends via the platform.

The catch, because there’s always one, is that it does not have access to concerts from bigger acts. Instead, the app is supposed to “fill the room and expose folks to bands that are just starting to blow up, but have enough of a presence to sell a few of their own tickets, too.”

How exactly will Jukely be able to provide so many concerts to their users? The app, according to Celik, is a “win-win” for both the app and concert promoters because both will be able to garner revenue from originally unsold tickets. But, what has remained unclear is whether or not the artist will receive a chunk.

Launched last April during Techstars New York City conference, Jukely raised $2.5 million just last month thanks to a number of sponsors, such as Spotify and Northzone.

The app currently is operating in 17 venues in New York City and will expand in the upcoming future. The company hopes to use the money it has raised to expand into Los Angeles and San Francisco early next year.

YouTube launches own music streaming service

The music industry has evolved over the last 30 years. In Recent years, music streaming has dominated listening. Streaming services such as Spotify continue to be the major places where music fans from all over the world can listen to their favorite artists and discover new ones.

After having some legal hiccups about how to properly compensate indie labels, YouTube has revealed their new streaming service, Music Key.

The streaming service is prepared to launch in a “beta mode” for a small group of people on Monday, and to the general public in 2015 for a $10/hour subscription. There will be a focus on mobile devices rather than browsers on the desktop. The service will allow its users to listen to their music while using other apps at the same time as well as allow music videos to be cached for offline use.

The service will not change the site, but it will change the way tracks will be organized. Songs will be organized through artist and album, like iTunes and Spotify, thus making it easier to search. Music Key will allow for its users to switch between its streaming service and the Google Play download store.

Riot Fest owes Humboldt Park $182,000 in repairs

We all know music festivals are expensive to coordinate and plan, thus making unwelcome weather a costly aspect. The Chicago Tribute reports that Riot Fest owes Humboldt Park $182,000 in repairs from the festival this year. This is triple the amount the festival owed in 2013.

Rain was a factor in this year’s Riot Fest making Humboldt Park a muddy mess. Park district spokeswomen Jessica Maxey-Faulkner stated that there are currently repairs in progress, park district spokeswoman Jessica Maxey-Faulkner said.

There are some stretches where grass seed was put down and are fenced off in order to let the grass grow. However, according to the park district, the park should be ready for the public in the spring.

Officials estimate that the landscape repairs to the park would make Riot Fest organizers owe $182,000, which is more than triple the $54,300 that was estimated to have costed the organizers in grounds repairs last year.

This year, organizers say that Riot Fest was twice the size of last year’s site. The festival was on park property which has borders on North Avenue to the north, Division Street to the south, California Avenue to the east and Kedzie Avenue to the west.
