Bruce Springsteen closes out Jon Stewart’s last Daily Show

Jon Stewart hosted his final episode of The Daily Show after 16 years last night. The show featured a lot of people who have been on the show during his tenure, including Stephen Colbert, John Oliver, Steve Carrell, Rob Corddry, Lewis Black, Aasif Mandvi, Wyatt Cenac, Samantha Bee, and John Hodgman. He also had some prominent appearances from people like Wolf Blitzer, Hillary Clinton, John McCain, and his predecessor Craig Kilborn. Stewart may have been the most excited for his final guest as a person who grew up in New Jersey:  Bruce Springsteen, who performed “Land Of Hopes And Dreams,” from the 2012 album Wrecking Ball, per Stewart’s request, with the E Street Band backing him up. Then, as the other guests on the show rushed to the stage, Sprinsteen closed out with “Born To Run.” Watch it here.

All of Foo Fighters’ Million Dollar Demos tape leaks online

Foo Fighters released Songs From the Laundry Room, a 10-inch EP which features unreleased demos from their 1995 debut on Record Store Day.

The entirety of what has become known as Million Dollar Demos have surfaced on Reddit. As the story goes, the turmoil inside the band nearly forced the Foo Fighters to break up while recording the 2002 album, One By One. They ultimately recorded two different versions of the album, the latter being released into the public. The other version has remained unreleased, even though several tracks from it have been leaked.

The Million Dollar Demos has 11 tracks, 10 were considered for the album. Out of those 10, three were officially released: “Tired Of You”, “Walking A Line”, and “Normal”. Two others, “Have It All” and “Come Back” later leaked online.

A Reddit post explains:

“For some reason, an anonymous Redditor made a new account, whose only post is a download link for the Million Dollar Demos. This is the first time these have been made available in their entirety to the public, and have been sought after by die-hard fans (myself included) for the last 13 years. Most of the songs are similar to their final counterparts, while other songs like ‘Come Back’ and ‘Lonely As You’ are drastically different.”

Matt Berninger and Brent Knopf announce new album and tour as EL VY

Matt Berninger from the National and Menomena/Ramona Falls’ Brent Knopf have joined forces for a LP under EL VY. According to a press release, the name is “pronounced like a plural of Elvis; rhymes with ‘hell pie.'” The debut record, Return to the Moon, is set to come out on October 30th through 4AD. Watch the lyric video for the title track here. The album cover is above and the tracklisting is below.

Berninger and Knopf will tour under EL VY later this year.

The men discussed working together in a press release. “I never worried about sending Matt something unfinished,” Knopf said. “He’s able to imagine where it can go. He can grab the four bars that will become the core of the track and develop them into something amazing.”

“This record is more autobiographical than anything else I’ve written, but the details aren’t true,” said Berninger. “It’s written in the voices of a few invented characters, composites of different people—myself, my wife, and other people I was thinking about.”
