Leonard Cohen’s cause of death revealed

Leonard Cohen’s death was announced to the public on Friday night, and today, Cohen’s manager Robert B. Kory has released a statement revealing his cause of death, The New York Times reports. “Leonard Cohen died during his sleep following a fall in the middle of the night on Nov. 7,” Kory wrote. “The death was sudden, unexpected and peaceful.” The New Yorker reported on their radio program that Cohen had been battling cancer, and Cohen talked about his declining health in his recent interview with the magazine.

Cohen recently released his final studio LP, You Want It Darker where he addressed the end of his life. He was frank about his opinions on his unfinished work in an interview with the New Yorker, where he said, “I don’t think I’ll be able to finish those songs. Maybe, who knows? And maybe I’ll get a second wind, I don’t know… I am ready to die. I hope it’s not too uncomfortable. That’s about it for me.” He took back the quote later, telling fans, “I’ve always been into self-dramatization. I intend to live forever.”

Bon Iver’s 22, A Million newspaper goes to record stores

Bon Iver initially shared 22, A Million to their fans with listening events, where they gave out a special newspaper containing imagery related to the album. When copies of the paper in September showed on eBay for over $1,000,  Jagjaguwar,the band’s label, urged fans to wait for it to become widely available. Leftover copies of the newspaper have now been sent out to record stores around the world. “Call your local shop to see if they have ’em & snag a copy!” the band tweeted.

Leonard Cohen died Monday and was buried yesterday

Last night, the news came out that Leonard Cohen has passed away at 82. Few details of his death have been disclosed but it is now revealed that he died Monday, confirmed by a spokesperson for Sony Music confirmed to Billboard. He was not buried until yesterday, The New York TimesBen Sisario reports. In a statement from the rabbi and cantor at Montreal’s Congregation Shaar Hashomayim, “Leonard’s wish was to be laid to rest in a traditional Jewish rite beside his parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents.” Read the full statement below.

Donald Glover details new Childish Gambino album Awaken, My Love!

Donald Glover has shared the details for his third album as Childish Gambino. After teasing the artwork and releasing the first song, “Me and Your Mama,” he has revealed now the full tracklist for Awaken, My Love!, which is out December 2nd through Glassnote.

Watch Cloud Nothings’ New “Modern Act” video

Cloud Nothings have released a new music video for “Modern Act,” the lead single from their upcoming album, Life Without Sound which is due out January 27th via Carpark/Wichita. The video was directed by Michael J.S. Murphy and shows the older versions of the band getting haunted by a demon while mourning the loss of drummer Jayson Gerycz. Watch the video below (via A.V. Vic Mensa calls Trump racist, performs with Travis Barker on “Kimmel”

Last night, Vic Mensa performed his song “16 Shots” on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!,” with Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker. Mensa was also accompanied on stage by dancers dressed as police in riot gear, who he begins struggling near the end of the song. Mensa also abruptly stopped short to monologue.

“I’m a young black man from Chicago and I’m tired of not being able to trust the police,” he said. “I don’t want to see another 17-year-old kid like Laquan McDonald murdered in the street. So when I hear a candidate talking about law and order, and stop and frisk as the answer to our problems… You don’t know our problems in Chicago, and you damn sure don’t speak for us. Tomorrow we have the biggest election of our lifetime. You gotta get out and vote against hate, because Donald Trump is a racist and if you don’t vote, racism wins.” Watch the performance below.

Watch Temple of the Dog’s first reunion show

The supergroup made up of Soundgarden’s Chris Cornell, Pearl Jam’s Jeff Ament, Stone Gossard, and Mike McCready, and the drummer Matt Cameron, Temple of the Dog, have reunited for a tour to support the 25th-anniversary reissue of their 1991 self-titled debut album. They started the reunion tour last night in Philadelphia. Watch footage from the concert below. Consequence of Sound points out they played 23 songs. Their setlist included songs from the band’s discography and covers of David Bowie, Mother Love Bone, Harry Nilsson, Led Zeppelin, Syd Barrett, the Cure, and Black Sabbath.

ANOHNI shares new “Hopelessness” video

ANOHNI has released a new video for the title track of his 2016 HOPELESSNESS. It was directed by Alex Carver and the film shows “the fever dream of an anonymous corporate woman” where the “distant past and distant futures are irrationally fused in a bizarre, iconic vision of martyrdom where animals are citizens and people are drones,” according to a statement from Carver. Foxygen announce new album Hang, share “Follow the Leader” video

Foxygen have announced their follow-up to 2014’s …And Star Power. It is called Hang and it is set to be out January 20th through Jagjaguwar. The band have shared the music video for a song from the album called “Follow the Leader.” The video which is directed by Cameron Dutra, who also directed their “San Francisco” video, is filled with choreographed sequences with a bunch of backup dancers in a park. Watch it below. Foxygen also announced tour dates in support of Hang.

Every song on the album have a symphony orchestra as “America” and “Follow the Leader” hinted at. Trey Pollard arranged and conducted the group and Matthew E. White arranged additional arrangements. The album features appearances from  Steven Drozd and the Lemon Twigs from the Flaming Lips.

The album is available through a Jagjaguwar bundle, which is packed with a flexi-disc which features demo versions of “Follow the Leader” and “On Lankershim.” The first 50 pre-orders come with an autographed piece of sheet music from the recording sessions.
