Ryan Adams performs his Taylor Swift covers at the Daily Show

To cap off his first week as host of The Daily Show, Trevor Noah welcomed Ryan Adams for a performance of his covers album of 1989. Noah explained in a pre-show interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the singer-songwriter was not booked for being music’s flavor du jour currently.

“He took Taylor Swift and… remade that to much acclaim and has done exceptionally well, and I really appreciate that … He’s done in essence what we’ve done here—he’s taken something that was loved by many, cherished by many, and has created a new version of it for himself. And people have gone, ‘Wow, this is amazing. We can still like Taylor Swift but we can also like Ryan Adams’ 1989.”

Adams and his band performed “Bad Blood” first for television. For the web, they played “Style” and “Blank Space,” and Adams spoke briefly about how the album was created. Watch all the clips here.

Ryan Adams finally has covered Bryan Adams’ “Summer of ’69”

Ryan Adams, 13 years ago, played a solo set at the Ryman Auditorium. The set included appearances by Gillian Welch and David Rawlings, however, an obnoxious fan in the crowd would not stop calling for “Summer of ’69” by Bryan Adams. Thus, this heckler thought they were being funny by shouting this due to the similarity in names. Adams did not think it was as funny as he went on to a curse-filled rant and kicked the guy from the venue with at least a refund.

This was an infamous moment in Adams’ career but the story continued on Tuesday night. Adams was finishing his two night residency at the Ryman, and surprisingly enough, he actually performed the person’s request for “Summer of ’69”. The singer performed the cover of the 1985 hit without a hint of irony. He performed it as a gorgeous tribute to young love.

Watch Ryan Adams Cover Alice in Chains in Seattle

Although Ryan Adams has a vast, career-spanning catalog at his feet, including his new self-titled album, Ryan Adams has been pleasing his crowds with covers. Over the last few weeks, Adams has covered Danzig with Johnny Depp, Hüsker Dü with Bob Mould, Foreigner, and even Bryan Adams. Keeping this trend, Adams covered Alice in Chains’ “Nutshell” this past week during a show in Seattle.

Maybe Adams was influenced by Arcade Fire during their recent tour.
