Father John Misty has unleashed a great cover of Arcade Fire’s “The Suburbs” this week and in an interview with NME, he spoke the inspiration on choosing the song and revealed that the decision was for mundane and contractual reasons. His manager said he had to do a cover for CBC and that it was supposed to be a Canadian artist. After being shot down for Neil Young and Leonard Cohen, he went with Arcade Fire because he was hanging out with Win Butler before shooting.
Misty said: “That’s how these radio things go and then, on the internet, it gets spun into this like … ‘I just love doing these covers, I got so many under my belt, I just love whipping ‘em out at a moment’s notice and regaling the internet with reappropriated music.’ But I do love that song, and I really enjoy performing it.”

Josh Tillman, under the pseudonym of Father John Misty, has returned this year with I Love You, Honeybear, the much-anticipated follow-up to Fear Fun, and gives a passionate performance throughout the album. The obvious stand-out track on the LP is the hit, “Chateau Lobby #4 (In C for Two Virgins)” in which it has a massive sound to it with its brass and strings arrangements. Another stand-out track was the following song, “True Affection” which maintains Tillman’s classic lyrics but with an electronic sound to it, straying away from the general vibe of the album as a whole. Overall, this album is an ode to his wife, and a sincere one, demonstrating the intimacy and closeness he has felt out of it.
Father John Misty, Josh Tillman, has released the video for “I Love You, Honeybear”, the title track of his standout new album. The clip is “a portrayal of an average night in the lives of two EMTs,” played by Brett Gelman and Susan Traylor, according to the singer-songwriter. The director Grant James, who has also directed for “This is Sally Hatchet” and “Funtimes in Babylon” comes back with this visual, which also shows a tragic scene between Tillman and his Honeybear. After two sets at Coachella, including an appearance during Flotence and the Machine’s performance, Father John Misty has added more dates to his world tour with a leg in the U.S. and Europe.

Singer-songwriter, Father John Misty, recently released his sophomore album, I Love You, Honeybear on Subpop, and he just stopped by Studio Q at CBC to play the title track. The singer wears his sunglasses through the entire performance and self-bleeps himself for the somewhat inappropriate lyric in the song. The band gets deeply into the song, getting heavier and looser by the end of the song. Watch it below.
